Spore Hero Trailer!!

E3 is just around the corner and game developers are lining up their titles. One of the big ones to be shown for the Wii is Spore Hero, the follow-up to last year’s long awaited PC game Spore. Spore Hero is a Wii exclusive title that is taking the original and aiming it at a younger audience. It is also, of course, using Wii specific controls. Instead of having to click where you wanted your creature to move, you have direct control in this open world game. It is supposedly a non-linear game as well, allowing players to do quests or just explore to their hearts desire. Of course, it wouldn’t be spore without creation and evolution, so be sure that those will be a part of the game as well. You will be able to add things to your creatures as well as evolve those that you encounter. Spore Hero is an apparently good looking title, and being aimed at a younger audience could be hit or miss. Either way, keep an eye out for info on this title in the weeks and months to come. As of yet there is no release date but, I’d count on E3 changing that. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer below.

Punch-Out!!

If I had to make a list of things I’d consider to be the all time best it’d be fairly simple: Transformers, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Star Wars, Punch-Out!!, and The Wire. To imagine that any of those would be combined with another is absolutely mind-blowing. The universe may cease to exist. Well, it looks like the folks at Next Level are looking to pull the wool over our eyes. They have cast Clay Davis (real name Isiah Whitlock) as Doc Louis for the latest trailers of Punch-Out!! That’s right, scheming ol’ Clay “Shheeeiiittt” Davis from Baltimore’s pool of corrupt as it gets politicians, is playing the man behind Little Mac. I can not believe it!! It’s amazing. I think it could only be better if they’d have gotten Avon Barksdale, Marlo Stanfield, or Omar Little to play the part. Although, that would never work. I digress however, there are two new “documentary” style trailers that I’ll post below. The first is Doc Louis explaining a bit of the controls, the second is Little Mac talking about the heartbreak of losing and what it means to make a comeback. If you pay attention in the second video, you’ll learn about an unconfirmed character returning to the ring. Enjoy.

Grand Slam Tennis looks great. Tiger 10 looks even better. These two games, developed by EA, are embracing the Wii and it’s add-on Wii Motion Plus better than perhaps any sports titles will. Tiger is giving us disk golf, GST is giving us party play. Tiger is giving us Annika Sorensta, GST is giving s Maria Sharapova. Tiger is giving us Pebble Hill, GST is giving us Wimbledon. You get the picture? These two games are making sure not to be one upped by the other. They are also making it as difficult as possible on the consumer who may be forced to choose just one. If you are one of those consumers, I suggest going with the game that is bundled with WMP on your side of the pond. I also suggest everyone to watch the videos below, no matter what your financial situation is, I’m sure you’ll be pleased. Enjoy.

Friday Video Blowout!!!

So, I’ve been thinking about how I could wrap this glorious week up with a bang. A typical post showing one game with a cool new feature just wasn’t going to cut it. Not this Friday. Not the Friday after my beloved Manchester United qualify for the Champions League final in Rome. Not on the Friday that precedes a magnificent Two Week Vacation* for yours truly! No, this Friday was special. So, accordingly, this post should be special. If I don’t toot my own horn I believe you guys are in for a treat, or treats… I’ve got 5 amazing videos for your viewing pleasure. You read right, FIVE.

We’re going to start things off with a highly anticipated sequel, Boom Blox Bash Party. The sequel to the Spielberg produced smash, Boom Blox, hopes to be the rare sequel that improves where it needs to, and stays the same where it needs to. The team at EA Los Angeles is adding it all: level creator and editor, multiplayer modes, levels, game modes, balls, tools, physics and mechanics, blocks, characters, etc. I could probably go on for days listing what’s new. The things that have me most hyped are the Zero-Gravity and underwater levels. They look amazing. Simply put, this game looks amazing. Oh, guess what, it comes out in less than two weeks on May 19. I’d say let’s hope this sequel lives up to the hype but, judging by the videos below it’s going to surpass the hype.

Now for something completely different. Well, not completely as this game is also a sequel. This title however looks to throw everything you know about its predecessors out of a four story window. I am speaking of Ubisoft’s upcoming title, Rabbids Go Home. I’m sure we have all played and loved Rayman Raving Rabbids. Some of you may have even liked Rayman Raving Rabbids 2. I hope that, like me, you were mini-gamed out by the time TV Party hit the shelves. Luckily, Ubisoft gets the picture and are changing gears completely. Rabbids Go Home is being touted as a “comedy-adventure” title and not a mini-game fest, and thank God for that. RGH is focused entirely on the Rabbids, Rayman isn’t even in the game, and their wacky attempts to go home. Of course, I’m sure there are plenty of hijinks and mischief galore. I mean, these are the Rabbids we’re talking about. So far there’s no firm release date for Rabbids Go Home, other than later this year. There is however a teaser trailer for the game. You will find it below.

Now, it’s time for the grand finale. The icing on the cake. The proverbial walk-off grand slam. The knock out punch. That’s right folks, I’m talking Punch-Out!! This should be at the tip-top of everyone’s want list. The original, Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! has to be considered one of the greats. That, along with Blades of Steel and Excitebike are what made me love videogames. I’m sure it’s the same for a whole generation of people. Well, Nintendo and the team at Next Level Games hope to strike gold again with Punch-Out!!. I seriously cannot wait for this game. Watching videos of Little Mac in action can only be compared to being 8 years old and seeing all your Christmas presents wrapped under the tree two weeks before X-mas. It’s borderline torture. Still, we’re all adults here. We can wait 10 more days. Yes, 10 more days until Doc Louis takes the champ back to the top. 10 more days before Von Kaiser, Glass Joe, King Hippo and Piston Honda (now called Piston Hondo) feel the wrath of the green-gloved kid!! It is going to be ridiculously awesome!! If you don’t believe me, watch the videos below and see if you can fight the nostalgia, it’s just as good as seeing Ken Griffey Jr. in a Mariners uniform again. Enjoy.

*A quick note about the vacation. I’ve been assured that my accommodations are equipped with high-speed internet. If on the off-chance I was mislead, I do apologize and will continue posting as soon as we get back next Saturday. Yeah, I’m taking two weeks off but half of that is going to be a Staycation. Don’t fret, I’m sure everything is fine and I’ll be able to post aplenty next week.

The Destiny of Zorro!!

When a Zorro based game was announced on the Wii I didn’t know what to think. Having a game that was based around swordplay surely is tempting. But, there’s no Wii Motion Plus integration. Plus, I just never really got into the whole Zorro thing. It was before my time and then they tried to revamp it using Antonio Banderas. Not exactly appealing to me. Still, Nintendo decided that a Zorro game was necessary and it was officially announced in April and was released on Tuesday. A launch trailer for the game has been made available and, if you ask me, it looks like maybe they did the whole game in the month since it was announced. It looks bad. The Wii has been continually taking steps forward and 505 Games has taken two steps back with The Destiny of Zorro. There may be an audience for this title as it’s promised to be “fun for the whole family”. I just know that I’m not a member of that family. You’ll find the launch trailer below. Enjoy (this is obligatory as I highly doubt you’ll actually enjoy it).

So, for those that are still with us after that trailer I hope to make it up to you. The Conduit is one of the games that are pushing the Wii forward. It’s promising everything a console owner could hope for. Plus, it’s going to give us amazing multiplayer. How amazing? Just watch the three MP videos below and find out. Try not to drool. Enjoy.

Punch-Out!!: Behind The Scenes!!

It’s been a minute since I brought you guys some Punch-Out!! news. I’ve been obsessed with Tiger, Tennis and The Conduit. I do apologize.

The wait for Punch-Out!! is almost over. Just a couple of weeks before Little Mac enters the ring again on his quest to become the champion Doc Louis knows he can be. I. AM. PUMPED!! The latest video shows a nice little bit of gameplay as well as interviews with some of the lead designers. They mainly talk about how this game is definitely going to satisfy original Punch-Out!! fans as well as those new to the series. There’s really nothing new in it but, at 4 minutes long it’s chock full of Punch-Out!! glory. It’s awesome to see a bit of the original game shown back to back with the new. Next Level has done an outstanding job on updating this game without making it seem strained. I know tons of people say you might as well just get the original Punch-Out!! from the Virtual Console but, I disagree. I mean, you should get that one for sure but, this title will be outstanding as well. Don’t believe me? Then watch the video below. Enjoy.

Red Steel 2!!

This post is going to be short and sweet. When Red Steel was announced for the Wii everyone had very, very high hopes. This would be the game that made the console. Well, you could say it was a bit of a disappointment. The controls lacked the precision we all dreamed of. This would be a problem that plagued Nintendo’s system for it’s first few years. Of course, we all know about Wii Motion Plus and how it should be the solution to all these control issues. Apparently Ubisoft has also heard of the add-on. Last week they officially announced Red Steel 2 and it came out that the game was designed with WMP at the forefront. Thank God. Now it seems that the first trailer for the game has leaked. It is drool inducing. Seriously. Ubisoft should be giving up most of the goods on Red Steel 2 at E3 next month. Until then, I highly suggest you watch the trailer a few times. Enjoy.

Typically the release date for movies, music and games gets pushed back. It is rare to hear the magical words of “release date moved up” from a developer. The fact that EA is saying those four words could be considered a sign of the apocalypse. I consider a sign of wonderful days ahead. It looks like EA feels that their coveted titles that utilize the Wii Motion Plus feature should be available the same day as the add-on. This makes sense seeing how Virtua Tennis 2009, which I wrote about earlier today, would be awaiting WMP. EA has said they should be a part of WMP’s coming out party too. Both Tiger 10 and Grand Slam Tennis have officially been moved up one week to coincide with WMP’s release date. The titles will now be available on June 8. As I reported a couple weeks ago, Tiger 10 will ship in the US bundled with WMP for $59 or without for $49. Our friends across the pond will be given a Grand Slam Tennis bundle instead.

“This was important for us to bring in our ship dates for Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 and EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis to hit right at the launch of the new Wii MotionPlus accessory in North America,” said Todd Sitrin, Group Vice President Global Marketing, EA SPORTS. “Fans deserve great games that use the new accessory, and now they’ll have two that deliver authentic sports motion as soon as the Wii MotionPlus hits stores.”
