Let’s Get Competitive…

During our time together we’ve touched on many different subjects. You’ve learned a lot about me, and I’ve enjoyed sharing. Although, at times it does make me feel a bit cheap. I know so little of you… But, that is neither here nor there, and certainly a conversation for another time. While I write here about the Wii, it is not my sole console. Yes, I own another, a PS3 in fact. I enjoy it, and at times I play it more than my Wii. Forgive me. Although, right now I don’t play anything except “Fix this” or my new fave “oh, I get to pay money to do that next.” On a 1 to 10 scale, those two are definite 10’s. I mean, who wouldn’t enjoy buying a house and then realizing that they cost a lot of money. Don’t sleep, I didn’t buy a dump, the house is in great shape. That’s what is so disheartening, imagine if I had bought a fixer-upper. I’m pretty sure I’d have locked myself in the bathroom by now and would be sitting in the tub singing the Gummi-Bears Theme song… Anyway, the PS3 was what I was talking about. Why am I talking about that? Because other than the Wii I believe it’s the best console there is. I had the other one and got the red rings of death. (Side note: Can you believe that the 360 fails so much that Red rings of Death is in every gamers vernacular, and at a glance we all know what RROD is? Way to drop the ball on that one Microsoft…) But, my PS3 works perfectly. The reason for my discussing that, and the explanation for the post title, is that Sony just dropped the price of their system to $299. That is extremely close to the $249 price point of the Wii. As it stands, there’s not too much incentive for a buyer to purchase the Wii. Yes, Muramasa:Demon Blade looks amazing, as does Cursed Mountain (which is out now and I have no money to buy it because I have about 8 billion other things I have to buy…), but Sony has good games too. Analysts have come out now saying that Ninty should drop price now while it would still be effective, and I very much agree. Pretty soon MS and Sony will be launching their own “motion control” add-ons (don’t worry, I’ll be doing a nice piece on that shortly), and if they are a success $50 isn’t enough waggle room. Yes, I did just do that. Sure, Nintendo will still have it’s exclusive, but they will also still have subpar graphics and no Blu-Ray player. I say drop the price to $199 ASAP, and plan on being near $175 by the time the HDC’s launch their motion-controls. That way you can move a copious amount of systems at Christmas, and have WM+ 2.0 technology to announce at E3 next year. Yes, I have no idea if that is planned, or how it could get better, but I’m sure it could. Or, just announce the Wii2. If Nintendo came out with a console with HDC type graphics, and their proven motion, they’d destroy the other two. Of course, that’s just my opinion…

For those wanting to see some videos, I aim to please. Below you’ll find some gameplay for Muramasa, as well as a featurette on Cursed Mountain. If any of you have played CM, let me know how it is. Enjoy, and stay thirsty my friends.
