Wii Flap Revealed

Many people have been speculating exactly what the small flap at the front of the Wii console is, with a variety of rumours going round, like it is a camera or some other unusual piece of equipment, but now Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed in an interview with Game Informer what it is.

Game Informer: What is the little door on the front of the unit?

Reggie Fils-Aime: That is where an SD card goes. That’s storable media. And on
top, are the attachments for the GameCube controllers.

GI: So will SD cards be the primary storage medium?

RFA: It will be one of the memory mediums, and it’s the only one
that we’ve announced.

Unfortunately it seems that it is just for SD cards and Gamecube controllers not the camera that I was hoping for. But what is interesting is that there is going to be more than one type of memory storage for the Wii.

That is disappointing, but what other ways will there be to save games etc onto? Possibly a hard drive?

Guys remember that there are 2 USB 2.0 ports on the back. I am sure Wii will allow exteranal HD support. I think this is one of the better moves Wii have over Xbox360 and PS3 with their internal HD. Plus SD card capacity have greatly increase this yr and will continue to do so over time. So it too will be a viable means of storage.
